Hey Doll Face

'I love glamour and artificial beauty. I love the idea of artifice and dressing up and makeup and hair' - Dita Von Teese

Ok.. I really am planning on making this more of a vintagey style blog rather than a beauty and makeup blog but then I thought, hey!! makeup is part of my era and the glamour in which I love comes from being able to create that! Unfortunately I wasn't born with satin smooth picture perfect skin, I have blonde eyelashes and eyebrows which means I am able to pass very convincingly as an albino who has died their hair and I also suffer from the worst under eye bags which have ever existed, even after 12 hours beauty sleep!

What I love about the era in which I dress is that beauty and glamour can be created. I am amazed at the women who can leap out of bed, put their hair up and look stunning, I am also incredibly envious! But on the other hand I love my makeup. I enjoy doing my face everyday, I like having the patience to slowly build up what ever I am trying to achieve, to learn different methods of applying and see improvements. Many will disagree with me but I genuinely feel like make up is art and I am the little old painter with his palette trying to create what ever tickles his fancy today! Dear lord I sound like a crazy old bat but it is just how I feel!

I was thinking of doing a before and after photo but the before photos were so shocking and not something I wish the world and his dog to view! Therefore I have just included my whole makeup case, what I use in 'everyday' makeup and then plan to do separate posts reviewing single items of my makeup over time!

My makeup box

Things I slap on my face -
Soap & Glory - Feel Good Factor SPF25
MAC - Prep + Prime
Benefit - Boing concealer
MAC - Studio Fix Fluid in NW10
MAC - Studio Fix Powder
Bourjois - Blusher in Frosted Rose
MAC - makeup brushes no. 187 (foundation brush), 150 (blusher brush) & 195 (concealer brush)
QVS - compact powder brush

My go to lippy things -
Aloe Vera Vaseline (20 minutes before putting lipstick on)
MaxFactor - Colour Elixir Lip Liner in 10 Red Rush
MAC - Matte Ruby Woo
Soap & Glory - Sexy Mother Pucker in Yummy Plum

As I have already done a post on my eyemakeup I won't bore you with the details again but I will mention I have invested in a new eyeliner which I am getting on much better with!!
Rimmel London - Glam'Eyes

The finished product!!! Please ignore my stroke face lips and ever so attractive hair rollers! The last photo is of a different day and therefore different lipstick. I prefer the photo more but I think that is due to the quality being poor and I love a little blur around the edges to make everything seem peachy!

Reviews on individual products to come in due course!

Hollywood Glamour Bedroom Inspiration

Good morning! Or even afternoon now I guess!
I was planning on doing a makeup blog today and I have spent the morning rummaging through my draws looking for some nice lacy material to photograph my makeup against (attempting to be artistic now that I have a fancy camera to use!!) During my rummaging and mess creating I became a little sidetracked and came across a lovely little surprise! Long long ago I purchased beautiful dress/top/pretty thing, which after buying I decided it didn't suit me or whatever look I was planning to achieve at the time and therefore it got shoved into a bottom draw. But fortunately it is making a comeback!

How ever I have tried to photograph this, it looks incredibly unflattering at every angle, maybe it is very unflattering but I am not sure I really care! I have been craving pretty loungewear for a long while now, as my wardrobe only really consists of dresses and skirts and nothing that I can slob about my flat in without actually looking like a slob! But I think I have found the answer! It is made with lace and chiffon, is quite loose and flowing and I could probably do yoga in it if I really feel the need... that is how comfortable it is! Yet it is far more pretty than any hoody or onesie or any other comfy lazy day clothing I have come across!

Anyway enough verbal caressing of my new comfy clothes... after finding this item I have spent most of my afternoon researching vintage nightwear and pyjamas, without much luck. The genuine everyday sleepwear for everyday people usually consists of neck to toes nightys that look like tents and just no! I then wondered into Hollywood Glamour sleepy time clothes and oh my gosh I am in love. But I fell more in love with the bedrooms! The late 50's to 60's is an era I don't really spend much time on as I prefer the clothes of earlier years but when it comes to their decorating I love it!

I have created a little folder of images as inspiration for redecorating my bedroom and thought I would share it with you! I hope you enjoy!

Jolies Culottes!

I love the idea of being a collector, and I spent a good while the other day thinking about what I would love to collect. My ideal collection would be of old classic cars but until I win the lottery that isn't going to be happening. I then flicked through the ideas of tea cups, vintage compacts and china dolls. Although all of these are fascinating (I actually researched collections of all of these, too much time on my hands maybe?) I figured I am not in love with the object but of the idea of being a collector. I read blogs of collectors and they have so much passion for whatever they are collecting! I am just thinking about it because it seems like a cool idea!

Then however I thought, well what do I REALLY love?  What have I got a serious soft spot for and what do I actually own quite a lot of already? Why my lingerie of course! Ever since I was about 13 I have had a little bit of a passion for any underwear! I remember going to Primark (yes I am a classy lady) when I was 15 with my friend Annabelle and buying my first thong, it was a hideous piece of string that is now fortunately long gone, but it was SO exciting to own something that felt a little bit racy yet no one ever saw or even knew about! That is how I feel about all of my lingerie and I will not purchase it unless it gives me the special feeling of 'I feel absolutely beautiful right now and no one knows why'!

It's probably a little unusual to blog about your underwear but I have included just a few of my favorite pieces which are not too extreme in that I can't wear them everyday but they make me feel a little special when I do! This is only a small chunk of my 'collection', I have just sat and gone through all of my lingerie and I actually think I have more underwear than actual clothes in my wardrobe!! (I did throw out my WHOLE wardrobe 9 months ago so I was able to refill it with only vintage style items).

This is one of my favourite 'pretty' sets, my photography skills are shocking but the detail in the roses are absolutely beautiful! It is from La Senza, but was purchased before they gave themselves a makeover, I'm not a huge fan of La Senza anymore, I feel like the new ranges they do are screaming 'stripper' at me, although I have only been in there once and briefly so I may be mistaken!

This set and also the set below are both from Ann Summers, who ALWAYS surprise me with their underwear! I absolutely adore this set! It makes me want to take a bath in diamonds and pearls, yes I know that's a bit extreme as it is only underwear but I love it! It feels super expensive and always reminds me of the classy expensive lingerie shops in which I can only afford to look in and not buy, despite only being Ann Summers!

As I said before this is another set from Ann Summers, which is beautiful but I do struggle on occasions to wear it! As is it so frilly (the knickers actually have a full on frilly skirt like a tutu!!!) I am unable to wear it under anything tight i.e. a pencil skirt, as it makes me look very lumpy. But when the occasion does arise it makes me feel very special!

This doesn't really count as my underwear but the accessories that accompany an outfit can be just as important as an outfit itself! I find tights the most unflattering and uncomfortable invention known to man kind, although this is just my personal preference and this stockings and holdups are so much more glamorous and attractive, and they also make you feel a little bit extra special. I accompany nearly almost all of my outfits with seamed stockings, these were incredibly fashionable throughout the 1920's to late 40's but it will take another whole post to go into detail on them so I will save it for another time!

Well this is a little peep into my collection so far! I would love to extend it to vintage lingerie. Obviously not to wear but to own and keep, just because I find the history of lingerie fascinating and so beautiful! This is my aim anyway but I will keep you updated if my collection grows!

Do any of you have any interesting collections? I would love to hear about it!

My Little Peepers

I am planning to do a full face makeup post in the near future explaining what goes on my face and reviewing what I use etc. But until that day when I haul out my makeup box I have decided to do a nice and easy eye makeup post. This isn't really a 'how to' post or really a reviewing one, but more of a 'this is what I chuck on my face' post. Not sure if anyone would actually be interested in a 'how to' post, my makeup is a bit too simple for that but let me know if you would like one, I would be more than happy to oblige!

In case anyone hasn't yet realised, I use rather a lot of slap on my face which is why I am just concentrating on my eyes else we will be here all day! These are my basic go-to eye makeup necessity's when I want an easy look I can achieve with confidence in under 5 minutes!

Urban Decay - Naked 2, I use Bootycall and YDK obsessively
Bourjois - Light eyeshadow no. 3
MAC - eyeshadow brushes 275 & 219
MAC - Liquidlast eyeliner waterproof (really struggling with this eyeliner at the moment, will review it in another post and let you know why)
Maybelline - The Falsies mascara
Rimmel - Soft Kohl eyeliner pencil in white
Eylure - 145 false eyelashes (they don't normally look quite so extreme as they do in these photos)

What do you run to for your everyday makeup? I would love to hear, I have a secret makeup obsession!

The Half Moon Manicure

The half moon manicure was the most popular nail design from the 1920's to 1940's. It vary's slightly throughout the years with the tip of the nail also being left bare or lightly coloured in; this was popular until the late 30's.

Cosmopolitan Magazine, December 1936

The most popular colours used for nails were always shades of pinks through to reds, and those are still the colours in which most people interpret the manicure with today. However even back then there were a few more diverse colours for the daring ladies, such as gold, green, blue, yellow and black. They were definitely not the most popular or common of choices, but they were still an option!

Ladies Home Journal, June 1945.

I have been to get my nails done a few times, and I ALWAYS get the half moon manicure in some form of red as they always do it so beautifully but when it comes to painting my nails at home I have very little patience. I often do 2 coats of red all over (no half moon manicure) and then get impatient in sitting still and usually smudge them trying to get some chocolate out of its wrapper!

But today I was determined to not only sit still until my nails are 100% dry but to attempt a half moon manicure myself! Up until recently I have worked with horses and therefore growing my nails to even a respectable length without them breaking was impossible! But now it has only been 3 weeks and I am LOVING the length of my new nails (except one of them has broken, not exactly great for a nail post so please ignore!)

Think this photo makes me look slightly like an octopus

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have only just got my hands on a camera. This post was written on Wednesday but as I was unable to add photos until today it means my nails are a little worse for wear. But after 3 days there is no chipping and although they aren't in the 'just painted' standard I was planning for this post, I am still very impressed!

For the 'half moon' in my half moon manicure I used Rimmel London 60 seconds nail polish in 730 Silver Bullet. It has a mother of pearl look to it and I just think it is so eye catching, compared to if I was to leave it bare. I then used Jessica Custom Nail Colour in Regal Red. This is probably one of my favorite nail colours, it is a truly pillar box red and I find it hardly chips which is really saying something as I bash my nails around like there is no tomorrow.

I absolutely love having a half moon manicure. I think it looks elegant and creates a beautiful vintage look. I think my DIY half moons really need some work but as long as I show everyone from 2 feet away I think there will be no problems! I have also included some photos of 'cool' half moon manicures, for those who like the idea but want to look a little more modern and funky (yes I use the word funky and I love it!!!)

Letter Of Apology...

Bonjour my little cherubs!

I would just like to make a big apology as to why I have been so quiet the last few days! I have been an awfully busy bee with my grandma's, my uncle's and also my lovely friend Jo's birthdays all in this last week! It's like I have turned into some wild party animal!

But I have also accidentally dropped my phone in some juice and misplaced my camera, so I therefore have written a couple of posts but as I have no pictures to pretty them up with I haven't wanted to actually post them yet. But I will hopefully borrow one this afternoon so my blog should liven up a little bit!

Thank you for bearing with me!

Oh I Wish...

After spending my morning in bed feeling poorly, I have done an awful lot of online window shopping! I have already spent far too much this month but I have created my wish list for next months pay day, or maybe as it's my birthday next month someone might treat me (hint, hint)!!

Firstly is this most darling dress from Vivien of Holloway named Run Around Sue, I already own this dress in the strawberry print and absolutely love it! It is so simple and easy to throw on with some casual 40's heels for going about my day and think another one wouldn't to any harm to my wardrobe.

Secondly is this New Look Wool Jacket from Revival Retro which I have been obsessing over for the last 3 months. I don't have any 'mid-season' jackets, I only rocket from thin cardigans to the other extreme of thick wool knee length coats and desperately need a medium ground jacket for when the weather can't quite make up its mind. I think this jacket is beautiful and would go well with almost anything. My tiny problem is the HUGE price tag but some things are just a necessity!

Next up are these Crotchet Gloves from 20th Century Foxy. I have far too many of these in cream and white but haven't really spotted many in black before, and I think they are much more suitable for winter! Unfortunately they are actually out of stock in black at the moment but I am waiting patiently!

Also from 20th Century Foxy is this Tartan Pencil Skirt! I don't think tartan really suits me, I don't have a clue what I would wear with it and I'm not sure I could really pull it off... but oh I LOVE it!! There is something about tartan that makes me think 'oooo christmas'!!! (I know we are quite far off christmas but who doesn't love planning their winter outfits)! I also find when moving into my winter wardrobe I just seem to collect black items and its all a bit dreary! I think this would put a splash of colour into wardrobe!

I would also very much like the Morticia Corset in peach from What Katie Did Next. I have only ever bought corsets in black (I'm a bit worried this is becoming my comfort zone colour) and I quite fancy something a bit different. I think the peach is a gorgeous colour and it also gives me the excuse of purchasing new lingerie to match!

Well that is the extent of my online window shopping so far! I hope your all having fabulous days and feeling much better than I am although this has certainly cheered me up!

Outfit Post

Good morning lovelies!

I thought I would do a very quick outfit post! These photo's are from a little while back but this is my most beloved 'fail safe' outfit. I find it really flatters me, gives a little vintage vibe but as it is mostly all reproduction I don't have to be too wary of what I may spill on myself (unfortunately I was born with the clumsy gene and it can make wearing genuine vintage a little risky when I drink red wine)!!!

Please excuse the bad photography, this was just a photo from my iPhone but one in which my outfit is most clear.
Vintage fur stole - eBay
Blouse - Primark
Skirt - Rock Steady
Handbag - Hand me down from my mumsy

A quick make up check

I accessorized with seamed stockings, 1940's reproduction black court shoes, red half moon nails and of course my ever trusty red lipstick. I believe in these particular pictures it was MAC Ruby Woo (which I am planning on reviewing soon!!)

As I said, this is only a quick dashing outfit post, I hope you enjoyed it!

Kisses!x

A Quick Introduction

Hello! As this is my first blog post I feel like I should do a introduction of sorts. Firstly I would like to apologize for the 'prettiness' of my blog so far, in fact the lack of 'prettiness'. I'm changing my mind constantly, as I keep coming across different photos for this post and therefore different inspirations!

My name is Rosie, I am 19 and currently living just outside London. I have just finished studying a business diploma and am now at the 'I don't know what to do with my life' stage! I have a passion for all things of a vintagey nature, my main heart throb being the 1930's to 50's.

This is just a small post in which I have posted a number of photo's; they will hopefully give you an idea of what I love and adore, my inspiration and aspirations.

I don't even feel that this has even touched on the basics but it is enough for such a late time! Please enjoy and I will be back to you soon!
Much Love x

Please note; these photos aren't mine and have been collected off tumblr!
